Skillet Apple Pie

Enjoy our take on what is considered to be one of the most beloved American desserts out there!This apple pie recipe is guaranteed to bring back a sense of nostalgia as you remember holiday meals with family & friends, and the fruity aroma of pies baking in the oven. We recommend using delicious Granny smith apples mixed in your Carolina Cooker® cast iron skillet but try out a mixture of apple slices to add a bit of tart to your creation. One thing is for sure - there won't be a slice left once you bake this classic!

Ingredients

3 cups Peeled Apple Slices
1 tsp Cinnamon
¾ cup Sugar
½ cup Butter
1 cup Brown Sugar
2 Pie Crusts
1 Egg White, beaten
Powdered Sugar
Ice Cream or Whipped Topping (Optional)

Directions

Step 01: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Toss apples with cinnamon and sugar in a bowl, set aside
Step 02: Melt butter in your Carolina Cooker® cast iron skillet over medium heat, add brown sugar andslowly stir until sugar is dissolved
Step 03: Remove the skillet from heat and place 1 pie crust over the mixture. Using a fork, press to the sides to fill the skillet evenly
Step 04: Spoon in apple mixture and top with remaining pie crust and seal edges
Step 05: Brush top with egg white, sprinkle with sugar and cut 5 slits in the top to allow for steam
Step 06: Bake at 350 degrees for an hour or until golden brown and bubbly
Step 07: Cool apple pie for an hour before serving. Top with vanilla ice cream, powdered sugar or whipped cream for even more flavor!
